Located in the center of Bologna, the bread basket of Italy, Trattoria Del Rosso serves “piatti della tradizione Bolognese”  – “Traditional Dishes of Bologna” – seven days a week! Chef owned and operated by Stephano Curvucci, Trattoria Del Rosso’s goal is to serve their loyal guests a fine authentic, traditional meal that might be found in a typical Bologna home.  Its specialties include house made, fresh pasta lasagna, tagliatelle, tagliolini, tortellini, tortelloni, gramigna.  Enjoy meat cooked on the grill, crescentine bolognese, tigelle and piadina with a mixture of meats, cheeses and pickles. You can wash down your favorite dish with local regional house wine.  And, of course, don’t forget the trattoria’s marvelous desserts.

Back in 1860 the restaurant was known as Cafe Del Rosso. Today it retains that name and is also know as Trattoria Del Rosso. It is the only restaurant to have preserved its historic Bologna name in its original location. Caffè (Trattoria) del Rosso, was characterized by an informal and family atmosphere with soft music and comfortable rustic furniture. Today it is the same and people still come to the trattoria from all walks of life – entertainers, businessmen, students and professors.

Some may ask, “What is a trattoria?” The answer is simple. A “Trattoria” is a popular place to eat that is usually located in a central working-class neighborhood, or as we say, it’s “where the locals go for great traditional, regional food, ample portions, simple furniture and value pricing.” A trattoria is different from a “restaurant”, which is tipically more expensive, has smaller portions and is a bit on the “fancy” side.

Italians love “Trattorias” because they are family owned and operated. At Trattoria del Rosso foods are “home-made” largely from family recipes….. food that grandma used to make!  Menus are short because everything is prepared fresh.  In addition, Trattoria del Rosso recognizes today’s economics and delivers an excellent value for your money.

ABOUT THE CHEF:

Stefano was born in Forlì, capital of Romagna,where he began his passion for cooking with at the early age of six he was preparing meals for his family. He attended a senior high school specializing in modern languages and moved in Bologna for University. To pay for his University tuition, Stefano worked as waiter in several Bologna restaurants. While working in the restaurant he was exposed to many good chefs. His passion intensified and after four years of school and passing the bar, Stefano decided to give up his chosen career of the law in favor of following his real passion in his life, the love of cooking: he started his first restaurant at the age of 27, with the name of “L’anatra e l’arancia”, where he used to make a fancy and “rich” cuisine based on Foie gras, Caviar, Oysters and Shellfish. The place was very successful and after 6 years Stefano decided to change direction: he bought a very old and “tired” trattoria and decided to go back to traditional bolognese cuisine.
